After nearly 20 years of planning, the National Museum of Industrial History opened in Bethlehem Pennsylvania this week. The long-delayed industrial museum, housed in the century-old former Bethlehem Steel plant, was finally opened for visitors wishing to experience the showcase of American industrial might. After about 140 years of metal production, the plant's blast furnaces went cold in 1995. Located on the banks of the Lehigh River, Bethlehem was responsible for manufacturing the Golden Gate Bridge's legendary beams, the Rockefeller Plaza skeleton and armor plates for countless American warships. "Where better to showcase this history than where it happened?" said museum director Rusty Baker, speaking of the museum's poignant locale, adding "It really puts it into context." http://host...
After nearly 20 years of planning, a long-delayed industrial museum in a shuttered Pennsylvania steel plant has finally blown the factory whistle and opened the punch clock for visitors. As a showcase of American industrial might, the National Museum of Industrial History opened in Bethlehem this week. It is housed in a century-old building at the former Bethlehem Steel plant. The plant made the skeleton of Rockefeller Plaza, beams for the Golden Gate Bridge and armor plate for countless warships. In 1995, Bethlehem Steel's massive blast furnaces on the banks of the Lehigh River went cold. The plant had produced steel for about 140 years. In addition to the Smithsonian Institution-affiliated museum, it now hosts the Sands Casino Resort and a thriving arts complex called SteelStack. http://...

Just a scene taken on a drive-through of this area. It is located upstream from Pittsburgh, and it sits along the Allegheny river. The area is terribly repressed; it seems to be stuck in poverty and gloom, and this video seems to capture the feel of it. This is a place of more bars than churches. It is truly a shame that the working-class backbone of economic production is often mired in squalor and ignorance, especially when we consider that those who are not trapped in such a state could not be so elevated without its existence.
